Dany: has anyone seen my midrif plate?
Q:I've got to say, I love your "Woman Armour" posts. The way warrior women are portrayed in fantasy, particularly their armor, is often deplorable. If I was an ancient or medieval warrior, I wouldn't be rockin' a chainmail banana-hammock. Sexism is a gigantic problem in fantasy, and I don't want to be another male fan/author that contributes to it. Ladies in plate armor kick ass, and I applaud you for not putting up with any guff from mysogynists in the speculative fiction fandom. Good day.
Thank you anon :) They do kick ass, and there’s nothing that draws me faster to a book cover than a woman in full plate!
I just finished watching the Borgias trailer and all I can say is,
WOMAN IN ARMOUR-GASM
‘Scuse me while I geek the fuck out some more. LOOK at that face. Furrowed and hostile and mannish and Gwendoline Christie is a butch goddess now.
can I just gush here for a moment about how perfect she is? There is very little in terms of the feminine to Brienne, and she’s standing all tall and stiff and proud like the warrior she is, but there’s that hint of awkwardness that she is not quite comfortable in her own body. And I’m probably so odd for pulling so much out of own filming photo, but she’s just so… BRIENNE. I love it.
MORE IMPORTANTLY, BRIENNE AND CATELYN IN THE SAME SHOT! :D :D :D :D
How did I miss this shot??? Gwendoline Christie, how did I ever doubt you? She is so channelling Brienne. Finally, a woman warrior in real armour who looks like she could actually kick everyone’s ass. Thank you GoT!

Re: Dany’s armor
It looks similar to the shoulder-leather-patch thingy Qotho wore last season. It’s not Westerosi (medieval) armor like we’re used to, it’s a Dothraki thing. And the Dothraki don’t believe in big bulky armor, since it does slow one down. (And protect the organs, as Jorah demonstrated in his fight with Qotho.)
see?
Though Qotho is dead, so that shows how much his armour was good for. I’m more loath to see women in unpractical, body-show-off armour since there is just so many of them in fantasy everywhere. GoT is the last place I thought it’d be! I want my women-in-practical armour haven :)
Daenerys Targaryen: Blood of the Dragon protects all the vital organs.
Well, it does look like she’s in a desert - I’d be wearing as little as possible if I were in a desert.
Show!Dany is immune to heat though, so she shouldn’t mind some extra metal over her gut or chest if it keeps her alive.

Daenerys Targaryen: Blood of the Dragon protects all the vital organs.
Warrior women get shit done. A tribute to all the ladies who have battled their way across the ages. Starting from the left and going topwise: Lozen of the Apache, Sun Shangxia, Zenobia Queen of Palmyrene, Matilda of Canossa, Nzinga Queen of Ndongo and Matamba, Mai Bhago, and Tomoe Gozen.
Snow White & the Huntsman: First Impressions
On one hand: it’s another story about women deriving power from beauty.
On the other hand: Charlize Theron is mesmerizing and compelling.

On one hand: it’s that Twilight girl.
On the other hand: I dig women in full plate, hard. Especially on promo posters.

I don’t know what to feel about this movie, and it’s not even out yet.
