Birth Control in Fantasy: A Guide.
Realm of the Elderlings: wizardwood navel ring
Tortall: magic charm
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms: godwords
Terre D’Ange: divine intervention
Valdemar: potions
One thing I noticed is that fantasy birth control tends to be infallible. Does anyone know any that isn’t? (Not including historical methods, just typically magical author-created methods.)
I feel like you should mention herbs. Because you forgot Heartleaf Tea from Wheel of Time. There was some herb in the Mists of Avalon too, but I can’t remember if that was an abortifacient or if it was a contraceptive.
Or Cersei Lannister’s method of getting Robert Baratheon drunk and then eating his semen in A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones series. That seems to be pretty effective. Does that even count? LOL
Thanks! It has been forever since I read Mists of Avalon, I truly couldn’t remember it was in there. And I don’t think I read WoT far enough to get to anyone having sex…
Though I wouldn’t count the methods in aSoIaF, since tansy tea and oral sex exist in our world already. Except maybe sterilization dragon birth would be the Westeros/Essos magical birth control method.
